End of the Accomplices

Featured

They say all good things must come to an end and sometimes that goes for partnerships as well. Last year, Matt and I decided to part ways romantically. When we started Accomplice, 5 years ago we agreed that we were such good friends that it didn’t matter what happen, we would make our business partnership work and we would always be the Accomplices.

Sadly after our romantic relationship soured, we couldn’t keep that end of the bargain up. Matt said that he couldn’t work with me and that he would find a way to buy my shares of our company. Four months have now gone by, no agreement has been reached, promises from Matt have been made and broken, and I have been locked out of all the financials of the company despite being VP of Accomplice Beverage Company, Inc. Matt has been giving me silent treatment via email when I ask about the current state of our business, why are we in Pennsylvania entertaining distribution when we can’t supply the state of Florida?, where are our K-1s, paperwork etc etc. He wants to control it all and ignore that I am still a majority owner with him.

I also have not been paid for my design services through my other company including this website, social media, logos and t-shirt designs and have been asked for that to be settled up as well. I have been trying to find a way to come to some kind of properly drawn up legal agreement including paying for a lawyer out of my own pocket but I am only met with stonewalling from the other side when my lawyer has requested paperwork I am legally entitled to. At this point, I am not going to invest any more money into what could be a costly litigation process.

I have given Matt the option either buy me out or learn to work with me as the VP of the company and treat me fairly, legally and properly. It’s been a tumultuous few months to say the least. It reached an apex when Matt messaged me via Instagram last week saying that I am “just f*cked there is no buyout” and well he is right.

It breaks my heart as everyone knows I have put my blood, sweat and tears into this company and have worked side by side with Matt to create and build this company on a shoe string budget. We weren’t a well financed brewery project we did this mainly ourselves with some help of our friends to build it. Personally, I have spent the past 5 years fully supporting Matt and putting a roof over our family’s head including taking care of him and his child and of course my two little ones as well. I have worked tirelessly 7 days a week for weeks at a time with no day off – running TWO companies, traveling for events and sales all over the state, kegging cider, running events, bartending, hiring, social media, and more. I didn’t do just one job at Accomplice I did many yet I was paid for none for almost 4 years and neither was Matt. Accomplice would not exist if it is wasn’t for my hard work and support to start this project literally from the ground up.

So with that said the chapter of Matt and Fel at Accomplice is closed. I am still technically and legally 40% owner of the company but I am locked out of what I started and built with my partner in crime. I no longer feel welcome in the warehouse park I called home for 5 years. It is time to move on and so I walk away empty handed with some meaningless ownership of an LLC that maybe one day will pan out… who knows…

I can promise that this isn’t the end of me. Just like a phoenix, I will be reborn again. You can follow me on my original instagram account @accomplicebrewery to see what my next project will be. I am still out and about in the brewery community (which by the way, THANK YOU! THANK YOU for your outpouring of love and support during this time). I just won’t be behind the bar at Accomplice anymore. So until the next chapter is written… cheers!

Tasting Room Changes

The Accomplice Tasting Room is MOVING!!!
That’s right!  It’s bitter sweet, but we’ve decided to move our Tasting Room facility.  Where?  Well what better place than right next door to our production facilities!  Pretty sweet!  We’ve been working on demolition of the old marketing office space and still have a little bit of that to go, but are on track to open AUGUST 1st in the new building!  If you’d like to get a sneak peek at the changes, we will be working on the new space today.  Simply stop by the Tasting Room and ask your bartender!  The amount you’ll be able to see will depend on when you arrive and the point we’ve reached in the project at that moment, but you’ll be able to at least see something!

Orlando Flavor: A Taste of Italy in the Sunshine State

Accomplice is excited to be partnering with Loews Hotel Portofino Bay. We developed a special flavor for their FLAVOR by Loews Hotel program. Read more about it from their blog post.

Orlando Flavor: A Taste of Italy in the Sunshine State
(Posted originally on Loews Hotels #wishyouwerehere blog)

Orlando is renowned for its world-famous theme parks, but its emerging food and culinary scene is giving locals and visitors alike even more reasons to savor their time in the City Beautiful. With the launch of Flavor by Loews Hotels, our hyper-local food and beverage program, you can experience some of Florida’s unique flavors while enjoying our Italian seaside village at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, a South Seas paradise at Loews Royal Pacific Resort or a Caribbean island escape at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort.

We’ll share more about all our vendors here in the future, but first up, we’re headed to Italy! Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is a re-creation of the charming Italian village of Portofino, Italy, but you’ll find locally sourced ingredients in dishes served throughout the resort. From freshly baked bread and gourmet gelato to our exclusive lemon basil cider, our local partners infuse authentic tastes of Italy into the menus in our restaurants, in-room dining and special events. That means whether you visit Loews Portofino Bay for business or pleasure, you’ll experience the uniquely local flavors that bring our version of Italy to life.

Accomplice Brewery & Ciderworks

Matt Stetson and Felonice Merriman are co-owners of Accomplice Brewery & Ciderworks, which serves up handcrafted fruit-infused hard ciders at their West Palm Beach taproom. As a sixth-generation cidermaker, Matt started experimenting with gluten-free recipes after he and Felonice started dating and he learned she had celiac disease. This passion turned into a business and today their ciders can be found on tap at bars and restaurants throughout South Florida.

Known for their unique and innovative recipes, Matt and Felonice created a lemon basil cider exclusive to Loews Portofino Bay Hotel with a nod to notable flavors from Italian cuisine. Take a seat at our harborside bar, Thirsty Fish, and unwind from the day with a glass of this flavorful cider. You’ll also have a great view to enjoy the nightly performance from Musica Della Notte’s opera singers. The cider is also served at Bar American, Splendido’s, Mama Della’s and Trattoria del Porto.

As you can see (and hopefully as you will soon taste!), our local partners like Olde Hearth Bread Company, Duomo Gelato and Accomplice Brewery & Ciderworks help us bring all the delicious flavors of Italy to Loews Portofino Bay, located in the middle of all the action at Universal Orlando Resort. For more information on Flavor by Loews Hotels, visit www.loewshotels.com/flavor.

Kathy joined Loews at Universal Orlando Resort in June 2016. She has called many Florida cities home, but thinks Orlando is the best place to live, work and play. Kathy enjoys bargain shopping, going to concerts and watching sports, particularly college football. Go USF Bulls!
